3 Books to Give This Christmas

Oh, good heavens, how do I pick?! Which three books, of all the books I’ve read this year, would I recommend you give (or get for yourself)? Well, after due consideration, I suggest:

For the Romance Reader

You just can’t miss with Laura Lee Guhrke! Her Lady True Love series just keeps getting better and better and The Trouble With True Love is no exception. While it came out earlier this year

, if the romance reader on your list missed it, they’ll be glad you didn’t.

My other pick: Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley. Just a lovely, beautiful story … Read more »

Friday Reads: Fantasy

I have this not so secret love affair with Fantasy novels. Of course this is no surprise if you know that the first book I ever set out to write was a medieval. I love a good quest. A battle for the soul of a land. Right and wrong. And so with the passing of Ursula K. Le Guin this week, I thought I’d share this great fantasy book and hope you will share your favorites in the comments below!

I have to admit that I was just blown away by Anthony Ryan’s Raven Shadow series when I read it … Read more »

The Tale of 3 Covers

Or maybe I should make that “Two Wrongs Make a Third Cover.” Or “What happens when you write the stories of identical twins and the trials of making sure both covers have the same model.”

Or rather, “How SIX IMPOSSIBLE THINGS got its cover because a certain someone (not pointing fingers here) decided she no longer wanted to be a romance cover model and made a mess of everything.”

Okay, let’s start with the problem–down below is the stepback for the first book, THE VISCOUNT WHO LIVED DOWN THE LANE

Intentional Writing

I’m struck by this word of late: Intentional. The definition is quite clear: done on purpose.

So I find myself asking this question over and over. What is my intention here? What is my purpose? Will my actions at this moment lead me closer to my intentions?intentional-20

I suppose as a writer

, I’ve done this forever, because this is at the very heart of storytelling. What is the intention of this tale? What do I want the reader to learn with this story? What journey of discovery do I want take them along? What am I intentionally doing … Read more »

Tuesday Teaser: Four Weddings and A Sixpence

When the four of us, Julia Quinn, Laura Lee Guhrke, Stefanie Sloane, and I came up with the idea for writing Four Weddings and a Sixpence, based on the old wedding rhyme (I know, me and my rhymes!) I had to have “Something Borrowed.” I mean as soon as we started talking about it, I just HAD TO HAVE THAT ONE. I could see the entire story in my mind–a heroine who needs to borrow a betrothed and then has to face the fact . . .

Well
