Did I Forget to Mention . . . The Excerpt is Up!

I meant to let you know before I went away for the weekend. But what a weekend it was. It had nothing to do with writing or romance. I’ll bet you can guess what I was up to, especially if you read my blog often. Yes, I spent the weekend knitting at the Madrona Fiber Arts Retreat. My fingers can’t type this morning to save my life. But I will tell you one funny story. In Cat Bordhi’s class, she was going around the room signing her books, (yes, I waited patiently and excitedly to get my book signed) we … Read more »

Going to the Dogs

It’s. That. Time. Again. Excuse my enthusiasm, but it is time for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Forget all the other dog shows that populate the television, this is the Academy Awards for Dogs. This is the big show.

I get all excited and sit glued to the tv for hours watching the best of the best dogs as they parade by. Then the next morning I call my agent and we compare notes. “What did you think of the Bernese?” “Wasn’t that <insert toy group dog of choice here> hilarious?”

This is my tenth year of this, my … Read more »

Meet My Friend . . . Samantha James

As promised, I would like to introduce you to my friend, Samantha James.  She was kind enough to let me bug her with questions about her writing and her new book, Bride of a Wicked Scotsman, and then I even roped her into blogging on Thursday as well. That’s what kind of friend she is! So without further ado, here is Samantha James:

EB:  What do you think the lure of the plaid is? How come Scotsmen make such great heroes?

SJ:  The accent. Hands down, it’s the accent. When I think of Scotsmen, several things pop into … Read more »

Be the Pebble

Going along with all my goal talk and organizing speeches, you are probably starting to wonder if I’ve been snatched by aliens and replaced by a goal striving, neaten up freak. Believe me, I’ll be better by February. But in the meantime, and since I have to speak tonight, I wanted to share something I read on Tuesday in an email and have been thinking about ever since. It all sort of rolled into listening to President Obama’s inauguration speech and his call to all of us to do more and a conversation I overhead.

(See it is me. The Read more »

Take The Girls Out For a Little Adventure

Now I know you think I am going to share some wild and crazy thing I did last week, and you would be right. I am going to share. You see I did something many women don’t do and should do every year, which is see to their physical well-being. We make sure the kids get their annual visits in, get them to the dentist and ortho as scheduled, heck even the cats and dogs get more regular care than we give ourselves.

But when was the last time you had a mammogram? When was the last time you took … Read more »

Gas Pump Buddies

If there has to be a plus to the high price of gas these days, I think I’ve discovered it. Have you noticed how much friendlier folks are at the gas pump these days? Not the poor clerk behind the counter who is taking abuse over prices he has no control over, but your fellow gougee on the other side of the pump. Instead of pumping gas and not making eye contact with anyone, or just staring at the ground until it clicks off, people are talking. They are even laughing. Well, it’s that pained laugh you make when you … Read more »

Trains, Planes and Automobiles

I’ve been so caught up in finishing a book, everything has sort of stacked up on the desk. I looked up the other day, blinked like a ground hog and realized I’ve got a bunch of events coming up soon and I didn’t have any of the particulars nailed down. Like airline flights, hotels, rental cars, the sort of details that my lazy-ass assistant never gets to. Oh, wait, that’s me having to get up an hour early to get it all done–so you can understand why it just sort of doesn’t–get done that is. And with the first trip … Read more »

In honor of Jane Austen . . .

I’m brushing up on my Jane Austen because I am speaking on her in April at my local libraries (in conjunction with the PBS Masterpiece airings of all the movies) and I ran across this. I found it rather vexing that anyone would find it intolerable to watch all six hours of P&P. Really, why would you have friends like that?

So I have to ask, did any of those sound familiar to you? Seeing that I was called “Lizzy” as a child, I don’t find it odd at all that one would want to be called that. But … Read more »

Is that a . . . ?!

During the holidays I received a card from a friend. For some reason, the card hung around my desk and I couldn’t bring myself to toss it. For some reason I kept thinking about her and finally, faced with cleaning the desk (which meant tossing the card) and doing something else (like clean my desk), I grabbed a note card and wrote her a quick letter. I just jotted down a few things . . . Thinking of you . . . hoping all is well in your new home . . . will we catch up in SF? Sure … Read more »

Monday Meanderings

I wish I could be inspired this morning and give you something to ponder over the next seven days, but I’ve had the flu for a week and running my push one button have a latte coffee machine is taxing my bandwidth right now. So I thought I would share something I found amusing. My husband took the little hero to the Mariner’s Fan Fest on Sunday. Little hero LOVES baseball, DH DETESTS it, so it is a real sign of a father’s love that he would spend the day at Safeco Field with two 9 year olds as they … Read more »
