Here is the great thing about a healthy TBR. When you need a book, there is always one nearby. I finally got a chance to settle in and read this over the weekend. I’ve had it for ages and glanced at it often, not having the time to commit because it is so long. But the DH was out of town, I was sick, my mom (bless her heart!) took the oldest of the little heroes, left me with the one that doesn’t chatter and has suddenly taken to playing quietly by himself, and I settled into a comfortable chair with a pot of tea and read nonstop.
No surprise that I love reading historical anything. Fiction, research, mysteries, whatever. And I have a real love of the Tudor era, so this was a double treat. I knew very little about Mary Boleyn (Anne Boleyn’s younger sister) but it was an interesting take on of her life, her time as Henry’s mistress and Anne’s subsequent rise and fall from Mary’s point of view. The last time I was in London, I went on a walking tour that started near the Tower of London right at dusk, and the entire area held such an eeirie sense of forboding and history, that as I read the portions of the book set around the Tower, the scenes came vividly alive for me. There is just something about that time period, the reigns of Henry through Elizabeth that must have been a wonder to see or live through (or survive!).
So that was my weekend at Henry’s court. So what’s been in your TBR for awhile that you’ve been looking for the right weekend to dive in?

OMG, what a question! 😉 My TBR pile, like most writers, consists of THREE really big plastic storage containers filled with books and categorized by historical, contemporary, and more chick litty/women’s fiction. Totally out of control! And, this is after I’ve gone through all the books about every 4-5 months to see if there’s anything else I can weed out for the library donation pile. Come to think of it, I believe it’s about time I do that again, especially knowing I’ll be bringing another suitcase full of books home from National–and those are only the ones I’ve decided to keep out of alll we get for free! 🙂

I am working on a paranormal (a new venture for me) so I have like books in my pile; when I get stuck, I suck another one down. I also have a box of FAs (favorite authors) that I haven’t gotten to because I am deep in composition. Honestly, when things are flowing, I’d rather write than do anything. Even eat, if you can imagine that (though I find I can always manage write and eat chocolate simultaneously–quel miracle)

I wish I had a TBR box! But I pretty much read everything straight out. Harry Potter 7 is in my TBB (at midnight) list, though. Also, I’m reading A History of Tibet, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. But that’s about it, unfortunately.

Oh man,, what a great question!!
I have Julia Quinn’s latest and Runway Duke by Julie Anne Long. I won’t be able to read them for a little bit longer, but I’m so looking forward to when I can! I have the book I’m currently reading and then Janet Mullany’s August release to read for reviews before I can hit other books.
I just finished reading Candice Hern and Jeane Westin’s August releases. They were both really good too!

Elizabeth, I got lucky!! I’m a reviewer over at Romance Divas and scored!! Plus I do reviews over at Romantic Inks. I get asked to do them from time to time. Makes me feel special hehe.

Yeah, Elizabeth, I’m POSITIVE that I’m the only person in the entire US who is looking forward to HP7. Why are they doing the midnight release? Just for me. And all across the country, too, just in case I want to move around a bit. 😀 I’m constantly geeking out about it. It’s great. Do your kids read Harry?

I had forgot to ask, did you watch The Tudors on *I think* Showtime?
I know it supposedly was horrid on historical correctness, but I really did enjoy the story of it all.

I am sitting on the new Janet Evanovich until after Nationals. For some reason she is very much a “summer” read for me.
Elizabeth, I have loved every one of your blog topics so far, and I am learning so much from them.

I have the latest Nora Roberts and Linda Howard in the TBR to read…while I’m eager to read them, I know I have a lot of errands and running around to do this week so it’ll be easier for me to just grab a paperback on my way out the door. Maybe I can get the girls to agree to a “Lazy Week” where we don’t have to go anywhere at all while Mom catches up on her reading? Yeah, not likely if I know my girls. lol
