TBT: Something About Emmaline

With Mad About the Major only a few weeks away from arriving on an ereader near you, I thought I would look back at the Bachelor Chronicles–starting with the first book, Something About Emmaline.

If you’ve never read this one, I have to say: what are you waiting for? Emmaline is one of my most favorite heroines–I adore how they first meet–Alex arriving at his London town house to find it in the throes of being redecorated and a woman in his bed. A woman who claims to be his wife:

“Yes, thank you,” she replied. “When my husband returns from Westmoreland, rest assured, he will kill you.”

“Have you ever considered, Lady Sedgwick, that perhaps he already has?”

“Has what?” she asked, the pistol trembling anew in her hand.

“Returned.”

It was at that moment that Emmaline Denford, Lady Sedgwick realized she was about to shoot her husband.

The very notion startled her so much, she dropped the pistol. And then the damned thing fired for her.

Card shark, con artist, beauty and unrepentant redecorater, I love how she turns Alexander’s life upside down. Read the full excerpt and order a copy today–all eight stories from the Bachelor Chronicles await you–and there is no better place to start than at the beginning.

I’ve read all of them… three times. Emmaline is a great heroine, and the chemistry between her and Alexander just seems natural. But this book is the first time we see Jack and Miranda. And if I can’t have Jack, at least he ends up with someone awesome!

Why have we never heard anything about them in any other books? Malvina and Lucinda show up in Rafe’s story but no Denfords.

That’s a good question! I haven’t even thought about adding them to other books–will need to find a way to do that in the future because Alex and Emmaline were such fun characters.

I hate waiting for the next book in a great series so I put off reading Emmaline when I learned The Major would be out. It’s on the top of my TBR list & then I’ll read the entire series–start to finish. Based on other books you’ve written, I already know I’m going to love them all.

Emmaline is the first I read in the series and from you. So you can say she hooked me. Loved her and Alex! And I’ve read most of the series and “sequels” too. But English books are so hard to find around here. When I have a bit more money I will have to buy the ones I’m missing!

I don’t think I’ve read this one! I know I read all the other Bachelor Chronicals (Mad About the Duke is my fave, though Lord Langley is pretty close). Am looking forward to revisiting those crazy Tremont’s in Mad About the Major 🙂

Elizabeth Boyle is one of the best Historical Romance novelists since Katherine Woodewiss. Read any one of her novels and enjoy one of life’s little moments of joy.

Being worried about the damage to the wallpaper nearly did me in lol… Read them all (twice) And the twins and their cousin are what inspired me to work towards shelling your book characters (shelling = making them in doll form somehow). I even have a hint of Emaline appearing in one of my dolls now… I’m thrilled… Can’t wait for #8.5! And I still want to see what happens with Cpt.Dash’s boys!
